About Our Community Care Groups
RISE ABOVE COMMUNITY CARE GROUPS
Our passion is to teach women and teenage girls how to Rise Above life’s discouragements so that they can begin living with the hope, joy, and peace that God intended. We use a "Whole Person" approach by offering encouragement in all three areas of our lives; spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
Rise Above offers a variety of encouragement because we know that life can become overwhelming because of;
The poor choices we make ourselves that end up causing pain and confusion
The hurtful decisions other people make which negatively impact our lives
Difficult circumstances that can drastically change the course of our lives such as; infertility, poor health, accidents, death of a loved one, loss of employment, natural disasters, disabilities and more....
Any one of these heartbreaking causes of discouragement can lead to depression, anxiety, addictions, relationship struggles, inappropriate anger, isolation, negative thought patterns, loss of hope, grief, bitterness, or a lack of forgiveness. Because of this, Rise Above Ministries is passionate about offering encouragement and support while you learn how to renew your heart and mind spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
"Rise Above Community Care Groups are FREE OF CHARGE simply because ENCOURAGEMENT IS PRICELESS!"
A "WHOLE PERSON" APPROACH TO ENCOURAGEMENT
Rise Above offers three types of encouragement: spiritual, emotional, and physical - based on our three parts: spirit, soul, and body as stated in 1 Thessalonians 5:23.
Rise Above offers spiritual encouragement because life’s discouragements often cause conflict between the thoughts in your mind and the feelings in your heart concerning God and his passionate love for you. We are taught in Sunday school that God is faithful, loving, and kind – while at the same time, the discouragements we have experienced lead us to believe that he is distant, untrustworthy, and unjust. These discrepancies cause our hearts to begin whispering doubts and lies about God, such as: “If God really does exist, then why is there so much pain and suffering in the world?”, “If he really cares, then why didn’t he do something to protect me?” and “If God is supposed to be fair then why is my offender’s life flourishing while I am still suffering the consequences of their actions?
"Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God,
and of Jesus our Lord," 2 Peter 1:2
Rise Above offers emotional encouragement while learning about our own personal “Mindsets” or the patterns of thought that we have developed as a result of our positive and negative experiences. Our mindsets are the filters that we view life through and they have the potential to become very helpful in our relationships, choices, and actions - or quite harmful!
“…be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2
Rise Above also offers emotional encouragement as we begin examining our 7 inner CORE needs for; forgiveness, love, acceptance, significance, security, purpose, and worship. When we attempt to fill these CORE needs with anything or anyone other than the Lord, personal discouragement is inevitable. Lasting hope, joy, and peace is only possible when God is the one filling your inner CORE needs!
"That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory,
to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;" Ephesians 3:16
Rise Above offers physical encouragement because many of us do not properly care for our physical bodies in the way that God intended. Our brains are the organ of thought, action, personality, and feeling. They help in determining our choices, behaviors, and attitudes as well as how we relate to others. They are an extremely important part of our lives, yet we rarely think about what they need in order to develop physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. During the time we spend together, we will be discussing a variety of helpful topics such as; food and behavior, blood sugar levels, food intolerance, dehydration, sleep issues, the effects of serotonin & beta endorphin, concussions, and more.
"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,
which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" - 1 Corinthians 6:19
What Happens at Rise Above?
RISE ABOVE - COMMUNITY CARE GROUPS
We have 5 different types of groups depending on your own personal preferences and whether or not you are close enough to join us in person. You can obtain more information about each group type by choosing the "Types of Groups" tab above.
Our community care groups meet once a week for about 2 hours and 15 minutes. Groups may vary depending on the size and type of group you are participating in.
LARGE GROUP TIME - A TIME OF LEARNING
During our large group teaching time, you will gain insightful information based on the 3 areas of personal encouragement - explained in detail above. Each week you will be encouraged with lessons pertaining to your spiritual, emotional, and physical needs as well as our very special "God Did That!" Stories.
"GOD DID THAT!" STORIES - Psalm 77
God tells us over and over in scripture to remember what he has done - to share our experiences of His mighty arm, reaching down and working in and through our lives in powerful ways. When we hear stories showing God's very real interaction in our lives TODAY - it helps to bring a seemingly very distant, far away God - down....very near, very powerful and very real! Psalm 77 tells us that when we talk about the things God has done it changes our perspective and brings great peace. These stories help to wipe away LIFE'S DISCOURAGEMENTS BECAUSE THEY HELP US TO REALIZE JUST HOW INTIMATE AND CLOSE OUR WALK WITH THE LORD CAN REALLY BE! He is real, He is personal, He CAN BE TRUSTED!
FOCUS GROUPS - AFTER LARGE GROUP TIME
We know how busy most people's lives are today and how hard it is to find dedicated quiet time after you leave Rise Above to really consider and apply what you have learned. Focus groups are a special part of our night where we split up into smaller sized groups in order to talk about what we have just heard, to set our own personal weekly goals, ask questions, and get support for any areas you are struggling with. PLEASE, DON'T BE FRIGHTENED BY THE WORDS "SMALL GROUP!" We understand that small groups can be a scary thing for those who do not feel comfortable sharing personal experiences. I WAS ONE OF YOU!!! I want you to know that nobody will be asked to talk about anything they are not wanting to discuss. YOU ARE IN COMPLETE CONTROL OF YOUR OWN PARTICIPATION IN OUR FOCUS GROUPS.
Rise Above's focus groups are highly encouraging and give you the opportunity to:
Consider what you learned in the large group session
Ask any questions that you might have
Set your own personal goals for the week
Share your own successes and/or struggles with the personal goals that you set from the previous week - ONLY IF YOU WISH TO DO SO
Meet new friends and develop an important support system
Have the opportunity to become an encouragement to others
Become a part of deeply unifying your community one neighbor at a time!
Our Focus Groups take place after the large group teaching time. These groups are for those ladies/teens who are really serious about making change in their lives. Participation in these groups is not mandatory - you can leave after the large group teaching time has ended if you prefer. BUT WE HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO PARTICIPATE!
RISE ABOVE IS NOT COUNSELING
Rise Above offers support and encouragement that goes along very well with most counseling or therapy sessions. Please do not discontinue any other professional services you are currently benefiting from.
COMMUNITY'S BETTER WHEN WE "DO-LIFE" TOGETHER!
